AUTHOR INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
When did you know you wanted to be a writer?
Pretty early on. When I was a kid I would write short poems and little stories. It wasn’t until high school and a teacher took notice of me. She pushed me into taking a creative writing class. Though it wasn’t until a few years ago that I wrote my first book. Which sparked that craving to keep doing it.
Do you have a favorite type of hero or heroine to write?
I like to write in split points of view. Strong heroines are my preferred to write. Heroes I would say, I like soft squishy hearts with funny personalities. I do really like heroes that have that sexy side for sure.
How long have you been writing, and how long did it take before your first book was published?
I’ve been writing since I was a kid. The first book I wrote took me over a year to complete. It really started as a way just to escape. I didn’t even think about publishing it until my mom pushed me to do it. Then with the help of a few awesome people I got it up.
Do you have a routine you follow when you’re working on a book?
A certain time of day when you write, or a snack you keep nearby? I have five kids, so writing sometimes has to be worked around mom mode. Sometimes I can only write a few sentences. Others I can write a chapter. I do love snacks of all shapes and sizes to be near. Mostly caffeine. When you’re writing, do you prefer silence or background noise?
When the kids are here, there is no silence. Background noise doesn’t affect me unless I am tired and mildly distracted. Usually I can pop in earphones and play music in one ear while writing. I’ve gotten great at multitasking.
Did anyone give you writing advice when you were first getting started? Do you think it helped?
When I first started the creative writing class in high school the teacher really directed me on things. After I published the first book this awesome person Tammy helped me so much more. She not only helped me, but she introducedme to a lot more people and things available. I think having her and an editor that gives honest feedback is what really has helped me. Tammy also motivates me like no other!
